Professional Growth
PGD.1 Pursue career opportunities within health care, industry, education, research, and other
roles as they evolve for the dental hygienist.
Lobby Day
We attended the dental hygiene lobby day at the Missouri capitol building in Jefferson City. This experience was eye opening. We spoke to politicians about the upcoming possibility of dental assistants being able to scale teeth. This could greatly affect our career as dental hygienists and the well-being of our patients. One politician practically laughed us off and told us that change was bound to happen. Another politician truly listened to what we had to say and agreed to advocate for what we were fighting for. This showed me that not everyone will listen or care about what I have to say, but it is important to never stop fighting for what I believe in.
Continuing Education
As a dental hygienist we are required to complete yearly continuing education to keep our license. Different organizations offer online courses for dental hygienists to access. These provide education on a variety of topics from the dental world and allow hygienists to stay updated on current science, techniques, and knowledge. Throughout our hygiene school program we have been assigned multiple continuing education courses to complete. I have a few of the certificates I have obtained attached below.
